When Brazilian graphic designer Carol Rossetti began posting colorful illustrations of women and their stories to Facebook, she had no idea how popular they would become.

Thousands of shares throughout the world later, the appeal of Rosetti’s work is clear. Much like the street art phenomenon Stop Telling Women To Smile, Rossetti’s empowering images are the kind you want to post on every street corner, as both a reminder and affirmation of women’s bodily autonomy.

"It has always bothered me, the world’s attempts to control women’s bodies, behavior and identities," Rossetti told Mic via email. "It’s a kind of oppression so deeply entangled in our culture that most people don’t even see it’s there, and how cruel it can be."

Rossetti’s illustrations touch upon an impressive range of intersectional topics, including LGBTQ identity, body image, ageism, racism, sexism and ableism. Some characters are based on the experiences of friends or her own life, while others draw inspiration from the stories many women have shared across the Internet.

"I see those situations I portray every day," she wrote. "I lived some of them myself."

Despite quickly garnering thousands of enthusiastic comments and shares on Facebook, the project started as something personal — so personal, in fact, that Rossetti is still figuring out what to call it. For now, the images reside in albums simply titled “WOMEN in english!" or "Mujeres en español!" which is fitting: Rossetti’s illustrations encompass a vast set of experiences that together create a powerful picture of both women’s identity and oppression.

One of the most interesting aspects of the project is the way it has struck such a global chord. Rossetti originally wrote the text of the illustrations in Portuguese, and then worked with an Australian woman to translate them to English. A group of Israeli feminists also took it upon themselves to create versions of the illustrations in Hebrew. Now, more people have reached out to Rossetti through Facebook and offered to translate her work into even more languages. Next on the docket? Spanish, Russian, German and Lithuanian.

It’s an inspiring show of global solidarity, but the message of Rossetti’s art is clear in any language. Above all, her images celebrate being true to oneself, respecting others and questioning what society tells us is acceptable or beautiful.

"I can’t change the world by myself," Rossetti said. "But I’d love to know that my work made people review their privileges and be more open to understanding and respecting one another."

Qunari seems cool…but honestly I dont know much about them considering I’ve played DA:O twice and once I managed to piss Sten off so much he wouldn’t talk to me and the second time; I just completely missed him because I thought I had to bring Alistair with me everywhere.
but Qunari seem awesome; love the horns.
Otherwise…human?

They are all okay, and all those things could exist in the same woman. Women shouldn’t be valued because we are strong, or kick-ass, but because we are people. (x)

Must-Have Dragon Age: Origin Mods!

spoopyantivantrash:

So while I’m sure this has been done before, I thought I would make my own masterlist of mods that I think are must-haves for Dragon Age: Origins.

If you haven’t played it yet, I recommend one play-through without mods so you can enjoy the game as it was made to be enjoyed, but if you have played it without mods and are looking for a place to start, you should check out the list below!

There are three parts:

  1. General Mods
  2. Appearance Mods
  3. Romance Mods

I’ve bolded especially important mods (although they’re all amazing).

General mods

Redesigns the characters of Dragon Age to either make lore-friendly or more aesthetically pleasing. Very important. (Complicated Instructions, but once you understand how to install it’s fairly easy.)

Just adds more to the world so it doesn’t feel so static. Starting a new game is recommended.

This mod allows you to sleep with either you dog or your LI in your tent! There’s an added “day camp” area, which is the camp at dawn. It’s super duper cool. 10/10 must try.

Adds improvements to the Cousland castle and dresses the Cousland appropriately. A++ immersion factor.

Individual Icons showing the item as it looks when equipped.

Your dog is a summon instead of a companion similar to DA2. This means you have have 3 companions PLUS your dog!

Because fuck being a rogue. (Jk rogues are awesome. I always play a rogue.) You can bash/force open chests and doors. The level of depth and immersion in this mod is ridiculous. Go get it!!

Grey Wardens will wear DA2 legacy armor in all DLC and main game. THIS IS MY FAVORITE MOD.

Transfers DA2 armors into DAO. Pictures on the page.

Does what the title says.

Makes Qunari look like DA2 Qunari. Sten will remain horn-less.

Armor similar to that of DA2 Qunari. (And Tal)

Improves the look of the game. NOTE: Installation can be a little tedious in my experience. Get a little mod-downloading knowledge before attempting to download this one.

Fixes an annoying bug that didn’t allow for use of DLC items (like Warden’s Keep armor and Starfang) so that it can be used in Awakening. Said to work with all DLC

Changes Isabela and Flemeth so that they look as they are in DA2.

DO I NEED TO SAY ANYTHING?? YOU GET TO SKIP THE FUCKING FADE. HOW GREAT IS THAT SHIT?? FUCK THE FADE.

Gives you the choice to skip Ostagar. Just like Skip the Fade, it will give you adequate exp and gold. All it does is play the cutscene in which the battle takes place and the game continues normally from there.

Improved textures!

fantastic! now that I have DA:O on PC I can actually get my Warden married to Alistair on screen! And all those others things!!! I’m swooning.

Thanks for the list!!

Headcanon time!

My first Warden; Tavira, was a human mage. She was brought to the Tower at around four years old and it was her home since.

When Jowan came to her, pleading to help him unite with his love Tavira could not say no. She couldn’t say no because of how important Jowan was to her.

They had met as young children and immediately taken a shine for each other - for a few years they were inseparable. Even after, as the two grew up and apart they maintained a close bond.

It was Jowan who would bring her food when she was ill. It was Jowan who recognized when she was unhappy and then attempted to cheer her up by freezing the feet of various classmates to the floor.

Only Jowan agreed to climb out the tower window with her and scale the slippery shingles until they reached the topmost point of the tower. They spent the entire night watching the stars and marveling at the way the horizon stretched on to infinity. It was only after the sun peeked out were the two interrupted by the harsh words of the resident Templars, telling them to get down immediately. Both of them spent the next two weeks under strict supervision but neither regretted it.

Tavira and Jowan had spent hours in  broom closets; hovering candles providing light, ranting about how the Circle was holding them back and how they could do so much more than allowed.

When Tavira found out Jowan was a blood mage she was angry. But she wasn’t angry because he was performing forbidden magic; she was angry that he hadn’t shared the knowledge with her.

Jowan was her best friend and brother - even till the end and so she did everything she could to keep him alive.
